The wilderness

"Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert."
- Isaiah 43:19

I feel like I've been living in the wilderness this past year and a half. Empty, dry, you can't see the road ahead, parched, lost, and barren.

I'm amazed when I read through scripture at the many references to the wilderness. No one wants to be in the wilderness. It's lonely. However, I could write a book about all of the rivers (not a drop... a river!) the Lord has provided in this season of life. It's true- so many blessings, gifts, and provisions along the way.

"Therefore, behold, I will allure her,
and bring her into the wilderness,
and speak tenderly to her."
And you shall know the Lord.
- Hosea 2:14,20

But I am the Lord your God
from the land of Egypt;
you know no God but me,
and besides me there is no savior.
It was I who knew you in the wilderness,
in the land of drought.
- Hosea 13:4-5

The best part, though, is the joy of knowing the Lord in the wilderness. He is good- oh so good to us!

For this slight momentary affliction
is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory
beyond all comparison.
- 2 Corinthians 4:17

I have a post-it on my mirror that reads:

The best is yet to come.

The best is heaven. I can't wait.

On the radio

Haha, oh I love when I'm surprised in the most unexpected ways. I was listening to the radio when a Rihanna song came on. In the first part of the song, a rapper says:

"Stop looking at what you ain't got and start being thankful for what you do got."

In this season of life, it's a good reminder. :)

Paris

Paris was really relaxing, which is just what we needed it to be. Some mornings we would get up and go through our travel book picking parts of the city to wander through. I loved the Rodin gardens...

... as well as walking along the Seine river.

Great things

This verse has been on my mind lately.

"The Lord has done great things for us; we are glad." - Psalm 126:3

I've found it to be true in times of plenty but also in times of wanting/waiting.

The little things...

Currently: sitting at the bar in my kitchen working on preschool stuff, the sun shining through the window. No filter just beautiful rays of sunshine streaming in. Actually, right after I took this clouds came and blocked the sunshine. I'll take what I can get, though. I wonder how many moments of sunshine I miss because I'm too busy. God gives us so many beautiful gifts. I don't want to miss them.
