"Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert."
- Isaiah 43:19
I feel like I've been living in the wilderness this past year and a half. Empty, dry, you can't see the road ahead, parched, lost, and barren.
I'm amazed when I read through scripture at the many references to the wilderness. No one wants to be in the wilderness. It's lonely. However, I could write a book about all of the rivers (not a drop... a river!) the Lord has provided in this season of life. It's true- so many blessings, gifts, and provisions along the way.
"Therefore, behold, I will allure her,
and bring her into the wilderness,
and speak tenderly to her."
And you shall know the Lord.
- Hosea 2:14,20
But I am the Lord your God
from the land of Egypt;
you know no God but me,
and besides me there is no savior.
It was I who knew you in the wilderness,
in the land of drought.
- Hosea 13:4-5
The best part, though, is the joy of knowing the Lord in the wilderness. He is good- oh so good to us!
For this slight momentary affliction
is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory
beyond all comparison.
- 2 Corinthians 4:17
I have a post-it on my mirror that reads:
The best is yet to come.
The best is heaven. I can't wait.
