Treasure

It was one of those days where you think you have the day planned, but it turns into something entirely different. I had planned to dog-sit a friend's dogs this weekend and go to a play with friends tonight. My Dad had surgery earlier today and there were a few minor complications. I called my Mom around 3pm and it was evident that I needed to be at the hospital, not only to support my Dad, but to support her as well. *Note to all: if your loved ones are in the hospital: be there. If your friends' loved ones are in the hospital, go visit them. Or at least support them in some tangible way.

Anyway, I quickly found someone else to dog-sit and take my ticket for the evening, and headed up to Greensboro. I can't even recall how many times I've been here this summer, but I'm not complaining. Perhaps after last summer, I've realized just how special my family is to me. When I walked into the hospital (which happens to be right next to the cancer center... too soon!), I went to see dear 'ol Pops. He wasn't looking good as he was in quite a lot of pain, although the morphine helped. :) Mom, Lu & I stayed for a while, rubbing his feet and asking every 2 minutes if he needed anything. When it was time to leave I burst into tears and made sure that the nurses would take excellent care of him.

Last night I was g-chatting with my Dad wishing him a good surgery when I asked for advice about something going on in my life. His response: "Advice? Same as always: if your treasure is Christ, you always have your treasure." Tonight, right before we left, and through tears I asked him if Christ was his treasure. He said through the pain, and without even thinking: "oh yes, yes he is".

I am honored to have him as my Dad.
